In this blog, I will be talking about the Mexican music culture because people need to

understand what exactly it is that Mexicans listen to. Many people think of the stereotypical trumpets and women in colorful dresses with men riding their horses and having big

Sombreros, but this is not the case. So, first, I would like to start with the 60s- 70s to give an overarching idea of how Mexico was back then. The music was typically very high-pitched formal romance music. Some famous artists were Leo Dan and Jose Jose. Who, at the time, were two renowned artists who were most known for their romance music. One of the songs made was Mary es
Mi Amor- by Leo dan and Amar y Querer.

The song in the first video is by Jose, and the song in the second video is by Leo Dan. As you can see, they are both similar in the way that they sound more formal and as though they are being performed on stage rather than a studio-produced song. Like many singers at the time, these men were more focused on producing solo songs on the topic of love. Both relied more on their voices, as opposed to instruments. The music they made was more in the genre of Latin ballads, not music to dance to, like the typical sound of Mexican music in modern days. You can tell they are artists who know their worth because they are not only wearing fancy tuxedos but have flashy hair and sing their hearts out into the mic. But both of these are great examples of what the 1960s and 1970s were like.

The 80s-90s were the best time because it was when many different kinds of music started coming out. This time period is my favorite because my dad tells me about how Mexico was at that time. He makes it sound like it would’ve been a fun period to have lived in Mexico during. This is due to the fact that crime and violence in Mexico did not run rampant the way it does now. During this time, you could walk around at night without anyone bothering or robbing you. At night, the city of Mexico is lit up by lights, and people stay up until midnight because it's more fun to be out at night than during the day.. As for the music, there was cumbia and wepa, which were and are popular dance styles in Mexico. There was also romantic music for drinking, and then there were Mexican rock bands.

Cumbia and wepas are types of music that come with a specific way of dancing that people use at parties, weddings, and other events. When I was learning how to dance to a cumbia or wepa song, they told me to follow the beat and that it was in my blood, so I should let my body move when I thought it was right. But everyone dances it differently, even though the steps are the same.Just the way they drive is different. Cumbia and wepa are known for both their music and their instruments. Each cumbia has a different beat, but all of them use the same instruments. There are drums, flutes, maracas, and accordions in this group. Here's a piece of both cumbia and wepa music. Los Angeles Azules is a well-known group that makes this music. The name of the song is

"el Listón de Tu Pelo."

The next type of music is sadder songs, which my dad seems to like the most, and that, regardless of their typically sad tune, are incredibly popular among the older generations of Mexicans. In this music, I'd like to tell you about Marco Antonio Solis, Los Bukis, and Los Temerarious. Both bands are well-known in Mexico and were big in the 1980s. Marco Antonio is the only singer in the band Los Bukis. Adolfo Angel and Gustavo Angel are brothers who make up the band Los Temerarious. I've put two songs below, one by Marco Antonio/Los Bukis and the other by Los Temerarious. As you listen to them, I want you to notice how they are alike and then how they are different. The first song is called
"How I Fell in Love with You." "La Mujer Que Sone" by los temerarios is the second song.

In the 1990s, all the music was the same. The only big difference was that a famous band called Los Hombres G added rock to the mix. Los Hombre G was a popular Mexican rock band. At the time, rock was popular in the US, and people in Mexico liked to listen to English rock. So this decade was all about rock because everyone wanted to rock, and everyone knew how the 90s were supposed to be. In an interview, it was said that Los Hombres G is "a group of young men with a lot of talent." "Devuelveme mi chica" is their most well-known song, and it is still played today, very common, especially during get-togethers.  At the time, people wore clothes like leather jackets and zipper pants, so they looked like motorcyclists. "Te" is an example of a song by Los Hombres G. I'll put "Devuelveme a Mi chica" just for fun so you can hear it. From 2000 to now, there are so many artists making different kinds of music that I really can't keep you all up, but I'll try to make it clear. You have regeton, banda, tacuache, and other kinds of music. In the 2000s, banda music, which is pretty good, was the most popular. San Jose de Melisa is a famous musician who is known for his banda music. The genre of banda music has more big deep drums and big deep trumpets, as well as a slow beat, and the singers' voices are high-pitched. Here is an example of a song called

"San Jose de Melisa." "Despues De Ti quien  is the name of the song.
